Walthers PROTO 2000 Diesel Alco RS-27 - Powered, No Sound -- Conrail #2412

As the horsepower race between major locomotive builders began heating up, ALCO rolled out its new RS-27 in late 1959. While the design used the running gear of the RS-11, the new model was powered by a larger 16-cylinder prime mover that generated 2400 horsepower. To accommodate its extra length, the cab was moved forward, and the front hood shortened, giving the RS-27s a very distinctive appearance. Under relentless pressure from GE and EMD, ALCO was able to sell just 35 RS-27s before production ended in 1962.

ALCO's last road switchers have long been a favorite with modelers. Notable features include:

* Heavy Diecast Chassis

* 5 Pole Skew Wound Armature Motor

* Precisely Meshed Worm Gear & Spur Teeth for Silent Running

* Magnetic Knuckle Couplers

* Prototype Specific Details
