Broadway Limited EMD NW2 Switcher with Sound/DC/DCC #2109
Broadway Limited Imports 2109 EMD NW2 Switcher with Paragon2 sound/DC/DCC Burlington Northern #546
After WWII, dieselization began in earnest and EMD's switchers dominated the market. From February 1939 to December 1949, EMD produced 1,145 NW2s. Each was equipped with a 1,000 hp, V12 567-A engine. Distinguishing features include two stacks in the middle of the hood, a half-height radiator grille, no sand box on the front platform, and no small louvers at the top front corners of the sides of the hood.
Burlington Northern #546 was originally an EMD TR2 (cow-calf paired set) demonstrator, which then went to Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad, before being rebuilt as an NW2 for Burlington Northern.
