No longer in production, these shells are all that we have left and cannot be replaced. This one is the Budd RDC-3 coach/baggage railway Post Office rail car. Built between 1949 and 1962, 398 RDCs were built by the Budd Company of Philadelphia, able to be used in DMU configuration. The cars were primarily adopted for passenger service in rural areas with low traffic density or in short-haul commuter service. Most of the American ones have been retired although there are still some operating in Canada. The RCD-1 has a capacity of 90 passengers; the RDC-3 49 passengers plus a freight/baggage and RPO compartment.
