The SD45 is a six-axle 3,600 hp diesel-electric locomotive class built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between 1965 and 1971. A total of 1,260 were built for American railroads before the SD45-2 replaced it in 1972.
ATSF had 125 of these units, of which 115 were rebuilt and renumbered between 1979 and 1989. #5408 was one of these.
