The EMD GP9 is a four-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors' Electromotive Division between 1954 and 1959. Many rebuilt GP9s remain in service today with shortline railroads and industrial operators. Western Pacific operated nine of these units and it was common to see them working mainline freights, locals, yard service and even occasional snow plow duty. #730 was involved in an accident in September 1963 at Beowawe, Nevada and traded in to EMD.
