Walthers Proto 920-41662 GE U28B Locomotive Milwaukee Road #5506 DCC
Walthers Proto GE U28B Locomotive Milwaukee Road #5506 HO scale
Milwaukee orange and equipped with tsunami sound and DCC. Ready to run
The U28B was a late era U-boat model released in January 1966 during the horsepower race between General Electric, Electro-Motive, and American Locomotive. The model was a slight step up in horsepower over GE's successful U25B, which had burst onto the locomotive market in 1959. It had proven General Electric as a respectable builder, as well as an immediate contender to knock Alco from its second place position. A total of 148 units were built in the single year of production before being superseded by the U30B and U30C. Most U28B's had been removed from remaining Class I rosters by the late 1980s, giving you a good 20 years of prototype operation.
