Walthers 50' Double Door Outside Braced Auto Boxcar Kit #932-5855 – SP

Cars of this style appeared around 1929-1930 on several Western railroads, where they were used to handle automobiles, furniture and lumber products. Their double-wide doors simplified loading these cargoes, which did not fit well in smaller cars. To handle larger vehicles, some roads added a door at one end, and when spotted at a ramp, the cargo could be driven on or off in a matter of minutes. Like most cars of this period, steel and wood parts were used in construction. Many remained in service into the 1960s.
This model features a detailed plastic body, and both standard and automobile door ends to match prototype practice.
